Onam Special !! All time favorite Kerala Banana Chips | Banana Kheer | Banana Peel Thoran
Being brought up in Qatar, me and my brothers get to see the traditions of Kerala, once a year, and it was really worth the wait after our first term exams.
My mom’s elder sister’s husband ( Ibba, we call with respect) has farm and we get all organic stuffs from there most of the time. The word organic became fashionable recently rt? But we were already having organic veggies and fruits from then.
It was on a vacation that I saw my mom’s sisters ( Kunhama, we call them with respect ), helping Ibba with the banana bunch to carry to the balcony behind kitchen.
And all the women in the family surrounded and started peeling the skin. And I looked wondering why. Finally got to know that’s how the vazhakkapori (Banana chips) is made. Seeing the yellow colour chips, I never thought that it was made with raw banana, I had guessed that it was with the ripe one.
Never expected that a healthy side dish with those banana peels left out would taste really good. The Banana peel thoran is really fibrous for the body.
Pazham Pradaman (Banana Kheer), aaaah !!! Another favourite in my list with the Parippu paayasam ( Moong Dal Kheer)
